How I Started My Short and Mid-Term Rental Journey
I ventured into short and mid-term rentals with the goal of achieving financial freedom and increasing my cash flow. After managing two long-term rentals, I struggled to find a third property that fit my criteria. That’s when I started looking into midterm rentals as a new opportunity. My initial goal was midterm, and as I finished the property and wasn’t finding anyone, I listed it on airbnb to see how that did. I didn’t realize how much I would learn over the course of a year.
The Search and Research Phase Midterm Rental
After months of diving into podcasts, reading books, and studying other hosts' experiences, I found a property in the perfect location near Tower Grove Park and The Missouri Botanical Gardens. It was exactly what I needed for my rental strategy—ideal for short-term guests and long-term midterm renters looking for a cozy, convenient space.
The Rehab Process
The property needed a full rehab, which took 3 months. While I expected some challenges, the renovation definitely threw in some surprises along the way. One of the biggest surprises? The roof! While initially focusing on interior improvements, I quickly found out that we’d need to address some major repairs up top. Once the renovation was complete, I focused on designing a space that felt like home—comfortable, functional, and built to last.
Challenges I Faced
Aside from the roof, the project did take longer and cost more than I initially planned. But seeing the finished product, I’m happy with the results. The space is fully furnished, designed for both short-term Airbnb guests and midterm renters, and ready to welcome visitors.
